Research

The correct assembly of the peroxisomal compartment and the functioning of peroxisomal processes are essential for human life. The mechanisms of peroxisomal biogenesis and the contribution of peroxisomal processes to the overall metabolic activities of the cell are only incompletely understood.

Currently the group focuses on the following topics:

  • Functional characterization of Pex11pa and Pex11pb and Pex3p, peroxisomal membrane proteins involved in peroxisome proliferation and biogenesis.
  • Role of plasmalogens, a distinct class of highly abundant ether phospholipids, the lack of which causes rhizomelic chondrodysplasia, a lethal peroxisomal disorder.
  • Regulation of peroxisome-microtubule interactions and their physiological significance.
